Course Import/Restore Checklist
An import is significantly faster and easier, and will include:
- Any custom blocks you may have created
- Gradebook formatting
- Resources and Activities
Do a backup and restore ONLY if:
- The source course is in the archives. In this case, you need to download the backup to your desktop.
- You need to overwrite the target course in order to correct an error, such as importing the wrong course.
Things to check after doing an import or restore:
When you complete a backup and restore, please make sure that you compare both of the courses and make sure that they are the same. This includes:
- Images
- Format, Topics/Weeks
- Make sure the instructor's name matches the section name.
- Gradebook - Check that all settings have successfully carried over to the new course
- Glossary entries - These do not carry over, and you need to import them separately: Moodle: Import/Export Glossary Entries
- Blocks
- Only 1 News Forum: Remove all but one news forum. If news forum has been placed in a special location such as under Forums, leave that one and delete all others.
- Only 1 Attendance Module: Remove all extra attendance modules. Check sessions to make sure you don't remove one already set up for upcoming term.
- Only 1 Support Block: Remove all student support or help blocks except this one:
