Last Updated: July 24th, 2023

Creating an Extra Credit Grade Item

  1. Go to Gradebook setup.
  2. Scroll to the bottom and click Add grade item.
  3. Give the grade item a name, adjust settings if necessary, and save changes.
  4. Go back to Gradebook setup, go to the new extra credit item, and on the far right click Edit>Edit settings for that item.
  5. On the following page, under Parent Category, check the box next to Extra credit and save changes.

Now your gradebook will have an extra credit item in it. It should look like this:

Creating an Extra Credit Grade Category

  1. Go to Gradebook setup.
  2. Scroll to the bottom and click Add category.
  3. Give the category a name, adjust settings if necessary, and save changes.
  4. Go back to Gradebook setup, go to the new extra credit item, and on the far right click Edit>Edit settings for that category.
  5. On the following page, under Parent Category, check the box next to Extra credit and save changes.

    Delete

    Important:

Extra credit should be set to contribute directly to either a specific grade category, or to the course total grade. An extra credit grade item will contribute either directly to its category (if categorized) or to the course total. If you mark an entire category as extra credit, you must leave the items inside of it marked as "normal", NOT extra credit. Points will not be calculated correctly if both the grade category and the items in it are marked as extra credit.
